Cooking the perfect rice can be more challenging than you think.

Making rice was something that always made me feel unconfident, even when I used a rice cooker - I still felt unsure about the end result.

Have no fear, I cracked the code to fluffy perfect rice, all you need is a small pot, wooden spoon and a lid. ( I can't wait to tell you all the story behind my white rice experience)

Now let's get started.

How to cook white rice on the stove:

Step 1: Rinse your rice. I know it's annoying but trust me rinsing your rice is what prevents it from sticking together and getting all clumpy. Rinse.Your.Rice! Do this by adding dry rice to a fine mesh strainer and running water over it until water runs clear.

Step 2: Ratios. 1 cup rice to 2 cups water - That's the law, now moving on.

Step 3: Toast the rice: Heat up your small pot, add a teaspoon of oil, pinch of salt and rice. ( use 1 tsp of oil to every 1 cup of dry rice) Saute the rice for about 2 minutes or until fragrant. Do. Not. Burn. The. Rice! (you can also add some thinly slices green onion or minced garlic for really good flavor)

Step 4: Add the water, cook. Cover with a tight lid, reduce the heat from medium to low, simmer for 15 minutes. (you can tell if the rice is done when the water is mostly absorbed and you see holes through the rice's surface.)

Step 5: Let sit. Turn the heat off, let a little of the steam out and let sit for 10 minutes. Use a fork to fluff the rice and serve!

Look at you, you just made rice!
